Being a Realtor is the "Dang-dest" Business!

It happened yet again ... and it's certainly happened before.

Met with a wonderful potential client about listing her house. And talked her out of it. Helped her understand why this just wasn't the best time to sell and perhaps she'd like to wait? And that her house was worth less than half what she thought.

This one broke my heart -- a widow that truly needs the money from the house. But the money just wasn't there. I hated telling her that. But it's part of the job and I couldn't live with myself if I'd told her anything different.

I'm not in the habit of talking people out of listing with me, but sometimes it's the right thing to do.

Now ... what other professional can you think of where you talk people OUT of using their services!

Being a Realtor(c) is definitely the "dangdest" business! And one of which I am very proud to be a member.

Gab,

You'll end up with business from this episode one way or another because you did the right thing.

I've been finding myself doing this a lot lately.  I walk out thinking what did I just do?

karma will reward your honesty. I wonder if a reverse mortgage might have helped this particular client

Ralph: Perhaps someday. These types of appointments are tough, aren't they?

Heather: I know, huh! But it IS the right thing to do. It so sad to see a listing where the house was listed for an unrealistic price. You know the owner has plans for the money from a sale ... and it's just not going to happen.

Michlangelo: We did talk about this a little bit, but the sad fact of so many is that they don't qualify ... or the house doesn't qualify. And the homeowner, as in this case, is really in a trap.

It seems that this outcome is common in today's market.

Good luck with this one when the time is right.

At least you were very honest with them. That counts so much in their book. You were a blessing to them and they will never forget you.

I've never been in a market where sellers are begging for realtors to help....I turned down a listing recently because I knew the home would not sell because the condition of the home was so dirty and bad.

Cameron: It is sad though, isn't it?

Robert: But dishing out the harsh reality right now isn't a lot of fun. Hopefully she'll be able to benefit from some of the suggestions and conversation we had.

Kay: Good for you!! I've not had to do that yet, thankfully. Although thinking back on one, I probably should have. This is a tough business right now.
